Over the weekend of August 22nd to 24th, the Olds Grizzlys hosted their annual rookie camp at the Olds Sportsplex. The event brought together 65 young athletes, ages 16 to 20, all eager to showcase their skills and earn an invitation to the team’s main camp. For many of these players, it was their first chance to put on the Grizzlys colors and experience the pace and intensity of junior hockey.

Over the course of three days, participants played 4 games under the watchful eye of the Grizzlys scouting and coaching staff. The competition was strong, with players battling hard to prove that they have what it takes to make the roster. Coaches and staff noted the high level of effort and determination shown throughout the weekend, which made for an exciting and competitive atmosphere.
By the end of camp, 14 players had done enough to earn a spot at the team’s main camp, running from August 25th to 29th. These players will now continue their push for a roster spot as the Grizzlys move closer to the start of the exhibition season.

Fans will get their first real look at these potential future Grizzlys during the annual Black & Gold Game on Friday, August 29th at the Olds Sportsplex. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM, and the game promises to be a great showcase of both returning veterans and new talent eager to make their mark.
