Grizz Bounce Back to Defeat Thunder

After a disappointing loss the night before, the Olds Grizzlys bounced back to defeat the Drayton Valley Thunder 2-1 in overtime on Saturday night.  Strong goaltending played a key factor for both sides in this tight battle which seen Olds outshoot Drayton Valley 37-20.  Both goals in regulation came in the first period with Olds scoring first as Mitch Owsley picked up a nice pass from Brandon Clowes and roofed it short side on netminder Marc Olivier Daigle.  Matthew Marcinew picked up the second helper on the goal only 1:07 into the game.  Drayton Valley responded with under 5 minutes remaining to tie it up at one’s (Tobin form Poirer and Malkowich).

The score would stay the same for the remainder of the game which sent the two teams into 3 on 3 overtime.  In the extra frame, Bart Moran slipped past the defenceman out of the corner and made a beautiful saucer pass to Dylan Hubbs who one-timed it into the net.  Goalie Talor Joseph was credited with the second assist.

The win was the Grizzlys 6th in their past 8 games and keeps them in a tie for 4th place in the South Division with the Drumheller Dragons.  Both goalies (Joseph and Daigle) earned Players of the Game.  Olds will have a week off before heading to Okotoks next Saturday and then will head home for a Matinee game against the Calgary Canucks Sunday, December 2nd at 2pm.
