Grizz storm out of the gate with back to back home wins

The Grizzlys have jumped into a first place tie for the South Division lead and share top spot in the league after 2 exciting home victories to begin the new 2013/14 AJHL season.
Olds started the weekend winning their home opener in front of the pumped up hometown faithful 2-1 over the Calgary Canucks. Spencer Dorowicz scored both goals, including a highlight reel beauty to nab the first 2 crucial points of the season. Kyle Star had an assist in his first action as a Grizzly. Ethan Jemieff was solid in net with 30 saves on 31 shots.
The Grizzlys followed that up with a thrilling game, coming away with a 5-3 win over the Mustangs on Saturday. Ethan Jemieff was busy but up to the task, kicking aside 34 of 37. Jemieff sits 2nd the in league with 63 saves through the first 2 games. Spencer Dorowicz is 1st in the AJHL so far with 4 goals, after another 2 in the win.  Olds hometown captain is 4th in league scoring and looking primed for a big season. New addition Christopher Gerrie scored and added a helper. The other Grizz goals came from Landon Kletke and another promising rookie Nikolas Koberstein.                    Coach Brett Hopfe is pleased with the victories, but remains focused on the areas he feels need improvement, “The boys worked hard over the weekend to earn 4 points, but we have a long way to go.  Defensively we struggled and that is something that a young team will do from time to time. We will continue to work on our defensive zone coverage in order to make our team better.  I loved the energy and team like attitude we played with.  We will be an exciting team going forward.”
The boys go for 3 in a row on the road this weekend. The Grizzlys are in Okotoks on Friday and then play the Mustangs in Calgary on Saturday.
You want to be at the next home game which is Tuesday, September 17th.  Come see Olds square off with the defending league and national champs from Brooks. The teams hit the ice at 7:30.
