Olds, AB – The Olds Grizzlys have been active during yesterday’s trade deadline.
The organization took part in a three team transaction, which saw F Chase Olsen being moved to the Spruce Grove Saints and G Josh Brindza to the Sherwood Park Crusaders. In return, the Grizzlys received D Tyler Pang and future considerations from the Crusaders. The last part of this deal sees F Tyson Gruninger being moved from Spruce Grove to Sherwood Park.
Tyler Pang arrives in Olds having played 26 games and scored 24 points for the Crusaders this season. The 99 born player is in his second year of junior hockey, having started his junior career in his hometown Victoria, BC. Pang will be expected to be in the line-up for this Sunday’s home game vs. the Canmore Eagles.
Coach Redmond adds “we are very excited to have Tyler join our organization. He will be a great addition to our roster and help the team make a push for the playoffs”.
The Grizzlys are very excited about this acquisition and would like to welcome Tyler to Olds!
Part of this deal sees hometown boy and captain Chase Olsen move to Spruce Grove. The Grizzlys would like to thank Chase for his unquestionable dedication and service to the team throughout the past two seasons. “Chase Olsen was our captain, and our leader”, associate coach Joe Murphy says, “His play while in Grizzly uniform was exactly the type of effort, and pride that we desire from all in our organization. While his skill and production will be missed, his leadership and attitude will be felt immediately.” Murphy adds, “the trade of Chase Olsen was not one that was approached carelessly. Chase was part of the process the entire way, as he was supportive of our organization. The Grizzlys are proud to be able to help Chases' pursuit of a scholarship in this manner, by allowing him to go to a team that should have a long post season. Thank You, Chase!”
For the second part of yesterday’s AJHL trade deadline, the Grizzlys traded D Cale Cripps to the Humboldt Broncos for G Sam-Jaxon Visscher.
The 98 born goalie has played for the Whitecourt Wolverines, in the AJHL, last season before joining the Humboldt Broncos. During his time with the Wolverines, Visscher put on a .908 regular season and .903 post season save percentage. The 6’1'' St. Albert, AB, product is currently in his second year of JR “A” hockey. The organization is excited about the addition of Sam-Jaxon and want to welcome him to Olds.
The Olds Grizzlys would like to thank Josh Brindza and Cale Cripps very much for their hard work and dedication to the team during their time in Olds. We wish both players all the best with their new teams and their future hockey endeavors.
