Grizzlys come back to earn point against unbeaten Oil Barons

There are single point games and then there are single points earned which show the true character of a team. Led by a spectacular hat trick from Spencer Dorowicz, the Grizzlys took the undefeated number 1 team in the AJHL standings and CJHL rankings to the brink of their first loss. Fort McMurray edged Olds 4-3 after a 4 round shootout Friday at the Sportsplex. Captain Dorowicz lit the red light for all 3 goals, with one in the first and two more during the 2nd half of the third period that saw Olds take over the game and outshoot the Oil Barons 21-9 in the final frame. Kyle Star had 2 assists. The Grizz outshot Fort. McMurray 33-27, with Ethan Jemieff making 26 saves to earn the tie.

Olds’ own Spencer Dorowicz is 2nd in the AJHL with 20 points after 14 games and he’s tied with Ryan Berlin of Whitecourt for first in goals with 12. Christopher Gerrie and Kyle Star are first and second in rookie scoring with 14 and 13 points respectively. Ethan Jemieff is 5th in the league for saves made with 269 stops this season.

The Grizzlys now have 4 wins, 7 losses, and 3 overtime losses for 11 points. The next action is Friday on the road in Grande Prairie. The Grizz bus stops in Whitecourt for a Saturday night showdown against the Wolverines.

Olds is back on home ice Tuesday October 22nd. Dress up like the “undead” for the Grizzlys Zombie Stomp game versus Drayton Valley. We are going to have fun games and prizes that everyone will enjoy.
