The Olds Grizzlys had a busy December 1st deadline day as they made a multi-player trade with the Calgary Mustangs. Resulting from the deal seen the Grizzlys acquire 19 year old forward Damien Kulynych and 18 year old goalie Jake Tamagi. Tamagi in his first AJHL season has accumulated 5 wins, 4 losses, and 1 tie in 11 games played while sporting a 3.67 GAA and .891 save percentage. Kulynych is in his third AJHL season. As a rookie he had 35 points and has 68 total points in 108 career games. This season, Damien has totaled 22 points in 31 games with the Mustangs.
Coach Brett Hopfe had to say about the acquisitions, “One of our goals was to add size and skill to our front end. We felt that we have accomplished this by getting Kulynych. He is a big, strong forward that can put numbers on the board. We have watched a few games where Tamagi has carried his team and given them a chance to win, like he did against us in mid-November. We are extremely pleased to have Tamagi and Kulynych in our line-up moving forward.”
In return, the Grizzlys traded away forward Mitch Owsley, goalie Talor Joseph and future considerations. Owsley was then immediately dealt to the Bonnyville Pontiacs. “It’s tough to see players who have battled and competed for the Olds Grizzlys organization move on. Mitch was a big part of our playoff run last season but this will be a great opportunity for both players to show their talents in new markets. We wish Mitch, Talor, and their families the best in their future endeavors.” said Hopfe.
Both players are expected to be in the line-up Sunday afternoon against the Calgary Canucks. For more information, please contact the Grizzly office at 403-556-1121.
