Grizzlys Win Second in a Row Against Canmore

On Friday night, the Olds Grizzlys defeated the Canmore Eagles 4 – 3 in the second of a home and home series in Canmore.  The Grizzlys came out of the gate flying opening the scoring 2:34 into the game with a powerplay marker from Tanner Dunkle assisted by Jordan Lajimodiere and Spencer Dorowicz.  The Grizz followed up with their second as Dylan Hubbs notched an even strength goal from Mitch Owsley and Dorowicz only to have the Eagles get one three minutes later to head into the first intermission with the Grizzlys leading 2 – 1.

Canmore took advantage of Grizzlys penalty troubles heading into the second period as they netted one early in the second to tie the game at two.  With two Grizzlys in the penalty box, Captain Bart Moran stepped up and notched a short-handed goal from Hubbs and goalie Ethan Jemieff.  The Grizzlys took that momentum and potted another late in the second period with a goal from Trevor Posch with the lone assist going to Landon Kletke to give the Black and Gold a 4 – 2 lead heading into the final frame.

The third period featured some playoff intensity back and forth action.  The Eagles made a late effort attempt scoring to get within one with less than two minutes left in the game.  The Grizzlys weather the storm as Canmore poured on the pressure with the man advantage, ending with a 4 – 3 final score.  Goaltender Ethan Jemieff played the entire 60 minutes stopping 30 of 33 shots.  The Grizz finished the game pouring 44 shots towards the Eagles netminder.

The Olds Grizzlys will play their final pre-season match in Drumheller on Monday evening before the regular season begins with the Grizzlys home opener against Spruce Grove on Friday, September 8th.  The Grizzlys roster is beginning to take shape as they are almost down to the 23 man roster projected by the start of regular season.
