The hopefuls on the ice were showing their stuff to the Grizzly coaches, but the local hockey fans showed off big generous hearts with donations to the food bank.
The Olds Grizzlys Annual Black and Gold Game was a 6-2 win for Team Black on Friday, but the Mountain View Food Bank celebrated the biggest success of the night with more than $800 worth of funds hundreds of pounds worth of food raised for the very worthy cause.
On the ice, it was a hotly contested, spirited affair with numerous tilts in the final opportunity to prove you belong with the best junior program in the country.
Head Coach Brett Hopfe was pleased with the intensity, “we have players out there who know they are battling for a spot on this team. It was good to see them play hard to try and set themselves apart from the rest. It should be a good training camp and we are really looking forward to the home opener Sept. 6th.”
The team will be practicing for the next week before taking part in an exhibition tournament with 3 games in Calgary this weekend. The next home game is the final game of the pre-season September 3rd against Drumheller.
The regular season begins with the home opener September 6th versus the Calgary Canucks.
