Player Spotlight: Brody Martin

This weeks Olds Grizzlys Player Spotlight goes to Brody Martin! ‘Marty’ or ‘B-Marts’ as he’s known in the room and on the ice is another one of our BC natives, hailing from Prince George. As an 2007 born defenceman, Brody is already wearing an ‘A’ for the team showing his leadership capabilities already. Standing at 6’0 and 190 pounds, Brody has been one of the biggest pieces of the teams defence core, playing a solid two-way game being able to play smart offensively and defensively playing a consistent game on a game-to-game basis. When looking at Brody’s play style, one could say he plays like an absolute ‘animal’. Marty plays a hard hitting game, always looking to lay out his opponent and will do anything to stop them from bringing the puck past him. Marty plays with no fear as well, and will get involved in every scrum he can. Earlier in the season, Marty had dropped the gloves with Storm forward Roghan Walker, who stands at 6’5 223 pounds, for a no-defence, all swinging, Fight of the Year candidate! Aside from the physical side, Marty so far this season has 3 goals and 13 assists for 16 points in 34 games played.

Last season, as a 17 year old, Marty played with his hometown team the Prince George Spruce Kings of the BCHL where in 22 games played he had 1 assist. Prior to his junior career, Brody played his whole U15-U18 career under the Okanagan Hockey Academy program, where in his final U18 season, Marty put up 3 goals and 7 assists for 10 points in 28 games. In his final U15 season, he played with current Olds Grizzlys teammates Presley Kerner and David Hoy, putting up 15 assists in 29 games.
