Player Spotlight: David Hoy

This week’s Olds Grizzlys Player Spotlight goes to David Hoy! The 2007-born forward joins us in his first year with the Grizzlys. Joining us from the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL, where he put up 3 goals and 4 assists in 51 games. Hoy is native to Fort St. James, BC, a small town in north central British Columbia with a population of 1386 in 2021. Hoy started his competitive hockey career playing out his minor hockey years playing in the CSSHL with Okanogan HA from the 2020-21 season up until the  2023-24 season, where he was consistently a top player on his prep teams, earning his way into the Winterhawks lineup.

Hoy has quickly become one of the most valuable players to the Grizzlys roster on a night-to-night basis, really stepping it up and finding his groove over the last 3 games. In Hoy’s last 3 games, he’s put up 4 goals and 2 assists, playing a huge role in knocking off the #1-seeded Whitecourt Wolverines. Hoy received an honourable mention for Play of the Week by the AJHL when he sniped a short-side top-corner goal from the goal line against the Kodiaks. Looking away from just points, Hoy has shown relentless effort playing a two-way role. Whether he’s forechecking or backchecking on a play, he’s skating with 100% effort, doing whatever he can to get the puck. Making big hits, plays, and playing top-tier defence, the former WHL player has shown a huge impact on the Grizzlys play since joining the squad.

Hoy looks to continue his point streak and strong play this week against three potential rivals over the course of this weekends must-see Grizzlys hockey at the Olds Sportsplex
