After a busy 3 game week, the Grizzlys get some rest without a game until this Saturday the 6th when the Lloydminster Bobcats are in town for our Teddy Bear Toss game at 6PM before the Devon Xtreme visit the Olds Sportsplex on Sunday the 7th for a 3PM afternoon matchup.
December 6th Vs. Lloydminster Bobcats: For the second time this season, and the first time on Olds home turf the Grizzlys and Bobcats will have a face-off. The first time this season that these two teams faced off, the Bobcats came out on top with a 6-3 win. The Grizzlys look to come out on top of this game with key pieces to the Bobcats previous win out of the lineup. With Matthew Kondro, who stood tall in net, up in the WHL with the Red Deer Rebels, along with Raphael Messier, Matthew Hikida and Esteban Cinq-Mars all away in Quebec playing for Team Canada West in the World Jr. A Challenge, the Grizzlys look to capitalize on the weakened Bobcats. Players to watch for the Grizzlys are Jordin St. Louis and Corbin Sanderman. Jordin St. Louis had one of the best games of his tremendous rookie season against Lloydminster netting 2 big back-to-back goals in the game which momentarily tied the game. Jordin has found the back of the net before against this team and will be looking to do it again. Corbin Sanderman will look to earn the starting call against this team again, as last time he was in net he made 28 big saves on 33 shots putting in a huge effort to keep the Grizzlys in the grasps of winning. Along with his stellar play, Sanderman got his first assist of the season on St. Louis’s first goal of the game, playing offence while still being the back stop of the defence. Players to watch for the Bobcats are Jadon Iyogun and Jack Ferguson. Iyogun is in his first season back in the AJHL since he played for the Grizz in the 2022-23 season. Iyogun scored his first goal of the season against Olds and now has 12 goals and 11 assists for 23 points in 20 games played in his final year of junior hockey. Ferguson had a stellar game on a line with Hikida and Messier getting 3 assists throughout the last face-off and will look to keep the offence going without his line mates being in this next game.
December 7th Vs. Devon Xtreme: Just like with Lloydminster, this is the second time the two teams will face-off and the first time that Devon will play in Olds this season. When the Grizzlys made the trip to GFL Twin arena, the Grizzlys fell 4-1 in a loss to the Xtreme. Just like Lloydminster, Devon is losing a very important piece in their leading rookie scorer, Ben Deacon, going out east for the World Jr. A Challenge. Players to watch for Olds will be Jordan Wales and Brody Martin. Both included on the lone Grizz goal, they were key pieces to the fight against the Xtreme. Wales scored the lone goal and will be looking to get back in the scoring column against the bottom team in the North Division. Martin had an assist on the Wales goal, and had an intense last weekend putting up a goal against Camrose and a fight against Calgary, Martin looks to continue his mean aggressive play that has helped the boys in Black & Gold win in the past.
These are two big home games against North Division competition that the Grizzlys will be fighting to take the 4 possible points that they need. This will be the last set of home games of the month before Olds closes out the month with games against Grande Prairie and Fort McMurray at home before Christmas Break.
