This weeks Olds Grizzlys Player Spotlight goes to Ryder Riedel! Ryder, a Didsbury, AB, local is playing his rookie season at home with Olds and has been a dominant offensive force. Ryder has had a late start to the year, facing on and off injuries but so far the rookie has 3 goals and 9 assists for 12 points in 8 games, scoring a point in every single game he’s played. And in his last 2 games, he’s contributed with a game-winning shootout goal, and the next game opened up the shootout with a goal. So far this season, Ryder has won AJHL Rookie of the Week honours twice, but there’s obviously more to come with how skilled this forward is. Day after day, Ryder is a huge put of the teams success in so many ways. Off the ice, he brings laughs and positivity and is vital to a positive atmosphere in the room. On the ice, Ryder is a workhorse that is always creating plays. He plays with 100% effort and competes like every game is a championship final and plays a 200-foot game with his gritty defensive game being almost as good as his offence.
Ryder joins us from the Coquitlam HC U18 team in the JPHL where he had 13 goals and 17 assists for 30 points in 25 games played, where he affiliated with the Coquitlam Express in the BCHL gaining that first step of junior experience. Prior to that, Riedel played in the Airdrie AAA system playing U15-U18 from 2020-2024 in the organization, including being coached by Grizzlys head coach Tyson Soloski for both of his U15 seasons!
While Ryder and the rest of the boys in Black & Gold are on the road this week, the Grizzlys are back at the Olds Sportsplex on December 6th when the Lloydminster Bobcats are in town for their first matchup in Olds!
