Tuesday evening seen the Olds Grizzlys host their annual Teddy Bear Toss in a high scoring, penalty filled game. The Grizzlys would like to thank all fans who brought bears, toques, and mitts as a very successful toss resulted in a generous donation to the Olds Christmas Angels Society. Despite the successful turnout, the results did not accumulate on the scoreboard as the Grizzlys fell 8-5 to rival Camrose Kodiaks.
Fans did not have to wait long to throw their bears on the ice as Grizz defenceman Jordan Lajimodiere opened the scoring 8:09 into the game while on the powerplay. Matthew Marcinew and Dylan Hubbs got the assists. Camrose answered back four minutes later with a goal from MacMaster assisted by Mailey. One positive from the evening was that the powerplay was clicking for Olds as Spencer Dorowicz scored with the man advantage before the period ended with the assists going to JC Heck and Lajimodiere.
It only took 35 seconds into the second period for the Kodiaks to tie the game up again (Mailey from MacMaster and Njaa). Under three minutes later, they took the lead for the first time in the game (Njaa from MacMaster). Both goals came on the powerplay. Before the second period finished, Olds came back and fired three straight goals to take a 5-3 lead going into the final period. The tying goal was scored by Damien Kulynych with assists going to Dylan Hubbs and Blair Oneschuk. Then Dylan Hubbs got one of his own with Brandon Clowes and Marc Eremenko getting the helpers. Then with under four minutes left, Captain Bart Moran scored with assists going to Chris Stachiw and Dorowicz.
The third period is one that the Grizzlys will wish to erase from their memory. Camrose outscored Olds 5-0 in the final frame to steal away the two crucial points. The first was MacMaster from Smith and Njaa. Then Harder from Waseylenko. MacMaster scored his 5th point of the night unassisted and then Tanner Tyndall potted two in a row. The first unassisted and Costello got the assist on the second.
The Grizzlys outshot Camrose 35-28 and went 2 for 5 on the powerplay. Camrose went 5 for 12. Dylan Hubbs earned Player of the Game. The Grizzlys head on the road Thursday in Canmore and Saturday in Camrose before coming home for the final game before the break Sunday at 1pm against Lloydminster Bobcats.
