The Olds Grizzlys Finalize a Trade and Sign 2 Players!

The Olds Grizzlys have traded defenseman Connar Bass to the Calgary Mustangs as part of a futures deal made on December 1, 2012.  Bass a native of Calgary had 1 goal and 3 assists during his first year on the Olds blueline.
Head Coach Brett Hopfe says, “We felt as though this would be a good move for both organizations at the time. Connar played hard for us this year and we wish him nothing but the best for him and his career.”
The Grizz have signed Dustin Gorgi, a 95 born 6’1 185lb forward, who played for the Telus Cup winning Red Deer Optimist Chiefs last season. Gorgi had 23 points in 34 games last year with Red Deer and also added 9 valuable points in 14 games during their run to the Telus Cup.
“We are extremely excited to have had the opportunity to sign Dustin. He is a big power forward who has championship experience.  We expect him to be a key player for us next year as we look to fill some key roles offensively.” Said Hopfe
The Grizz also signed 96 born Defensemen Nikolas Koberstein from Barrhead, Alberta. The 6’1 185lb Defensemen played for St. Albert Raiders last season. The offensive defensemen is known being slick on his skates. Koberstein was a 2011 draft pick of the Regina Pats.
“Nikolas is a smooth skating defenseman who has a lot of offensive upside.  He will have lots of opportunity on our team this year as we struggled mightily on the power play last season.  We are very excited to have the opportunity to work with Nikolas this year.” Stated Hopfe
Finally, the Grizz white carded Chaydon Lauber after their spring camp. Lauber, who was born in 1997, played 3 games with the Grizz last season and Coach Hopfe was very impressed with his play as a 15yr old.
“It is not easy for a 15 year old player to play at our level but Chaydon stepped up and didn’t look out of place at all, in fact, he may have been our best defensemen in a couple of those games. Do not be surprised if Chaydon is in the lineup at the begging of the new season.”
All of these players as well as the returning players will be at the Olds Grizzly’s annual golf tournament July 26th.  Make sure you come out to have a chance to meet them.
