August 26, 2019: The Olds Grizzlys of the Alberta Junior Hockey League hosted a successful Main Camp at the Olds Sportsplex. Main Camp was for invited players only, with 52 skaters competing for 22 roster spots. Many players were returning veterans, and prospective players were recruited from numerous leagues across Western Canada.
General Manager and Head Coach Joe Murphy, with his coaching staff and scouting team, evaluated veteran and prospective players through skill sessions and intrasquad games. Main Camp concluded with the Top 40 game which was attended by approximately 300 Grizzly fans.
?Our leadership team is impressed with the level of compete and skills our group demonstrated over the course of training camp?, said Coach Murphy. ?We were purposeful in our recruiting in the off-season, and our recruitment strategy has strongly positioned us for the intensive level of play we will expect of our players in the regular season?.
In the second year of a team rebuild, Murphy commented earlier today on what opposing teams and fans can expect to see from the Grizzlys in the upcoming season: ?Last season we established a reputation as a gritty team with a persevering work ethic; This season we will build on our compete and character with the skill set that our veteran core will bring, in addition to the new elements added to our game by incoming players?.
?The Grizzlys would like to thank all the players and families who came to Main Camp. Our coaching staff and evaluators had a strong talent pool to choose from, and many tough decisions to make as we build our roster. We are looking forward to exhibition games to help inform the next phase of our club?s development over the coming weeks?, concluded Murphy.
