Olds Grizzlys Make Trade with Calgary Canucks to Bring in Local Player

The Olds Grizzlys have acquired the rights of Matt Hanger from the Calgary Canucks for a player to be named later. Hanger, a 19 year old, 6’1” 190 lbs. defenceman from Three Hills, Alberta has career totals of 5 goals, 9 assists, and 139 penalty minutes in 88 games played.

“We are very excited to have a player of Matt’s caliber coming to our organization. We were looking for a big, tough defenceman and Matt fits that mold.” said Head Coach Brett Hopfe. “We feel very comfortable with our defensive position now having added Viveiros,, Lajimodiere, Bass, and now Hanger in the offseason.”

Grizzlys main camp continues this weekend with the Annual Black/Gold Game Saturday, August 25 followed up with the final home exhibition game Wednesday, August 29 against the Canmore Eagles. Both games start at 7:30pm at the Olds Sportsplex. Admission to the Black/Gold Game is a food donation to the Mountain View Food Bank or $2. Admission to the exhibition game is $5 for adults and $2 for children. Coach Hopfe plans to cut down to final roster numbers by Home Opener Weekend September 7th and 8th.
